Being part of the Garnier Community has been such a rewarding experience in meeting and engaging with other members. It’s a space filled with passionate beauty lovers, all eager to try new products and share their insights. However, something recently made me reflect on the importance of inclusivity in the beauty industry. I wasn’t put forward to try a bronzing lotion, and while that might seem like a small thing, it struck a chord with me. I have light skin and I’m mixed race, and my father’s English traits (blonde hair, blue eyes) means I tend to get quite pale, especially during the winter months. Living in London, where the weather is cold and the sun barely makes an appearance, I also struggle with a vitamin D deficiency, leaving me with a dull, washed-out complexion. Now, tanning products have never really been marketed toward people with my skin tone, but that’s precisely why I thought applying to test this one would be a brilliant idea. It’s freezing here, and we’re heading into the time of year where we all need a bit of warmth and glow. Why not let everyone have a chance to try it? It left me wondering about how exclusion can sometimes sneak into beauty. I believe that beauty should never exclude anyone based on their skin color, creed, religion, gender, or sexuality. The only reasons people should be left out are genuine allergies or intolerances, not because of who they are or how they look. While I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to try the product, I hope this post reaches Garnier and serves as a reminder to make inclusivity a priority. Their community is already filled with diverse, wonderful members—now it’s time for the products and testing opportunities to reflect that too. We all deserve a little glow, especially when the London winter’s closing in.
