Caring for damaged/bleached/overprocessed hair...
is not an easy task!
I have shown you what I enjoy using the most for my fine, bleached, damaged and greasy hair, and now I want to tell you about my usual haircare routine, share the few BEST products, and tell you why exactly I think they're well worth the purchase!
I think we've all been there - tried to dye our hair and ended up causing a lot of damage... it can happen! I've decided not to chop off all my hair and start afresh, but instead decided to wait for my hair to grow out nice and healthy, and take good care of it in the meantime.
I use a lot of products and rotate depending on what my hair needs at any given time, but I have now worked out what I think is the best, most nourishing, most protective day-to-day routine!
I've been a Garnier devotee for a long, long time - I enjoy the hair-friendly formulas at a fantastic price point, and importantly - THIS STUFF REALLY WORKS!
So, if your hair is anything like mine, perhaps some of these tips will work for you as well as they do for me!
SHAMPOO - my scalp gets quite greasy, and my healthy hair regrowth is now quite substantial, so for everyday, I prefer to go for a shampoo that will give my hair a bit of bounce and a good clean without being harsh on drying on the lengths.
This is where the WATERMELON HAIR FOOD SHAMPOO comes in. It does exactly that. It gives my roots a bit of an uplift, which in turn prevents it from getting too greasy too quickly, and is not at all drying on those vulnerable bleached lengths that really need all the moisture they can get! It contains nourishing coconut oil (cocos nucifera oil), watermelon extract (citrillus lanatus fruit extract) for added shine, and glycerin, which is a fantastic humectant (moisturising/moisture attracting ingredient).
This shampoo contains no silicones, which is great news for fine and greasy hair as those can cause buildup and make hair lanky and more greasy. However, due to the great ingredients above, it still nourishes the hair without drying it out OR weighing it down - how great is that?!
Absolutely fantastic for frequent use!
CONDITIONER - This is where I opt for a product that is heavier and more nourishing for frequent use, seeing as the top of my hair has completely different needs to the lengths and ends.
I choose to use the ULTIMATE BLENDS HONEY STRENGTHENING CONDITIONER. It contains fantastic emollients (oily conditioning substances) which coat the hair in a protective film, making it softer, smoother, stronger and more combable, reducing friction and therefore mechanical damage. Ingredients like Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Honey and Beeswax trap moisure inside the hair shaft do all of the above and give the hair a healthy shine.
It is what I would call a 'heavier' conditioner, but as long as I only put it on the bleached bits that really need all that good stuff, it doesn't weigh my hair down, but instead, nourishes and protects my hair. Absolutely fantastic, if you ask me!
My latest Holy Grail product is the ULTIMATE BLENDS COCOA BUTTER&COCONUT HAIR OIL FOR FRIZZY HAIR, which I use as the last step of my everyday routine - I apply a small amount onto damp lengths and ends, making sure not to apply it onto the top of my head.
This is the ultimate protective measure - the coconut oil and shea butter nourish and condition the hair, while lightweight silicones provide an occlusive effect and help to trap even more moisture inside the hair shaft. Frizz is gone, hair is left looking glossy and well cared for, and the ends are nicely sealed and protected from machanical damage that could lead it to splitting!
Damaged and bleached hair benefit hugely from a small amount of silicone and its fantastic occlusive/protective properties, so don't be afraid of them! They make all the difference while adding great shine!
I know I've already sung the praises of the NOURISHING BANANA&SHEA HAIR FOOD MASK, but I still have to reiterate that you won't find anything better for extremely damaged hair. I use it twice a week instead of conditioner to give my hair a much needed boost, with amazing results! If you want to see my best tips to maximise the effects of any hair mask, I wrote a long post last week in this category :)
So yeah, that's it for now everyone!
I'd love to hear your own tips and tricks for managing bleached and damaged hair! x
