Why should we wear sunscreen in winter? This is a question, I kept thinking about about so here is what I found; Wearing sunscreen in winter is important for several reasons: 1. UV Radiation Exposure: Even during the winter months, the sun emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation, including UVA and UVB rays, which can penetrate through clouds and reach the Earth's surface. 2. Reflective Surfaces: Snow and ice can act as reflective surfaces, bouncing UV rays off the ground and onto the skin, potentially increasing UV exposure. This effect, known as "snow glare," can lead to sunburn and skin damage, particularly on exposed areas such as the face, neck, and hands. 3. Skiing and Outdoor Activities: Many winter activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snowshoeing, take place outdoors at higher elevations where UV radiation levels can be more intense. 4. Skin Cancer Risk: Skin cancer can develop as a result of cumulative sun exposure over time, including exposure during the winter months. Applying sunscreen regularly, even in winter, can help reduce the risk of skin cancer by protecting the skin from harmful UV radiation. 5. Prevention of Skin Aging: UV radiation can accelerate the aging process of the skin, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. By wearing sunscreen daily, including in winter, you can help prevent premature aging and maintain healthier, more youthful-looking skin. To ensure adequate protection, it's essential to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or higher and apply it generously to all exposed skin, including the face, neck, ears, and hands, at least 15 minutes before going outside. For the unbothered amongst us, please just use the mist sunscreen
